Show Low is located at the junction of U.S. Hwy 60 and Arizona Hwy 260 in eastern Arizona with a population of 10,000. It is about 175 miles northeast of Phoenix and 200 miles north of Tucson.
Situated atop the Mogollon Rim in Eastern Arizona, Show Low is a pleasant mountain town surrounded by national forests. It offers plenty of heavily wooded camping areas, cabins, and fishing lakes. At 6,400 feet its summer temperatures are generally 30 degrees cooler than Phoenix and Tucson. Show Los is a perfect town for outdoor recreation with the Black River and Upper Salt River canyon close by.
According to the legend, the town was named after a marathon poker match, where the stakes were a 100,000 acre ranch. After no one seemed to get the upper hand, one player decided to end the contest by declaring to the other, "show low and you win". The other player produced a deuce of clubs (the lowest possible card) and won the ranch. Show Low's main street is named "Deuce of Clubs" in remembrance.
