Telluride Colorado, the land where people come to play. Telluride Colorado may be considered the one and only hidden gem of the Rocky Mountains, located deep in the Southwestern corner of Colorado. Nestled deep in the heart of the Rockies surrounded by the majestic 14, 000 ft peaks of the San Juans, Telluride attracts people of all sort, and has a wonderful mix of old and new, young and old, funky and sophisticated. The town of Telluride Colorado is only twelve blocks long and 6 blocks wide, The Town of Telluride's Historic District is filled with unique art galleries, boutiques, gourmet restaurants, bars, and bookstores. Telluride Colorado is connected to the Town of Mountain Village by the free 13-minute gondola ride. The Town of Mountain Village is it's own entity, however is the home of the world class Peaks Spa, a championship golf course and a state of the art Conference Center. Both the Town of Mountain Village and Town of Telluride are at the base of the ski slopes, however The Historic Town of Telluride is where all the fun happens. Telluride Colorado's rich history began with the Ute Indians who called the Telluride the "Valley of Hanging Waterfalls". Then in the 1870's the prospectors and miners came and found gold, then suddenly became the mining establishment of Telluride creating a hotel, opera house, bars and banks. Even Butch Cassidy came and left with some $25,000 of stolen money, of which was never recovered. Slowly the mines began to slow and in 1970 the Telluride Ski Resort was created. Still today Telluride Colorado still prospers.
Telluride Colorado has many attractions that boasts a perfect place for a Colorado mountain vacation, summer or winter. In the summer The Town of Tellurides splendid scenery is filled with an abundance of wildflowers surrounded by the majestic San Juan Mountains. The picturesque Bridal Veil Falls, which is parched far above the town of Telluride, is the longest free falling waterfall in the state of Colorado. The Bridal Veil Hydro-Electric power plant at the top of the falls was one of the first few power plants in the United States to generate electricity, proud to be the first to have alternating electric power plant running the first town on earth to have street lamps. Summer in Telluride Colorado offers limitless opportunities for the whole family with hiking, biking, golfing, fly-fishing, rock climbing, horse back riding, bird watching, paragliding, river rafting, and many more. Beginning in the spring and continuing into the winter, Telluride Colorado is the home to many festivals such as The Telluride Colorado Bluegrass Festival, Telluride Mountain Film, Telluride Film Fest, Telluride Tech Fest, Telluride Mushroom Fest, Telluride Blues and Brews, Telluride Wine Festival, Chamber Music Fest, National Paragliding Championships, Hot Air Ballooning Fest, and even has a Nothing Fest where you just may spot many locals riding down main street naked! Too many winters in Telluride are just as magnificent as the summers. Telluride Ski Resort offers terrain for all levels of skiers, however Telluride Ski Resort is considered to have some of the most vertical and technical terrain any Ski Resort has to offer. Other winter activities include snowshoeing, snow-mobiling, dog sledding, winter fishing, and many more. Telluride Colorado is truly one of the most serene places in the whole United States! |
