Kern River Rafting The Kern River starts in the Sequoia National Forest high in the Sierra Nevada mountains of southern California and continues past Bakersfield. Most of the Rafting on the Kern River happens around Kernville.
In the spring the upper stretches of the Kern River are high. At this time of year, Kern River Rafting is a raucous high adrenalin experience.
Later in the summer, the best Kern River Whitewater Rafting can be found downstream of Kernville where releases from Lake Isabela keep the flows steady. The lower Kern River is a magical place with beautiful geology and many hot springs on the banks of the river.
