This run is a great introduction to class V and is well within easy driving distance from L.A. The whole run follows the shuttle road and has three class V rapids and the rest is continuous class IV. Starting from the Corral Creek put-in easy rapids lead to the class V Squashed Paddler.
At low to moderate flows, you may enter this rapid through a small channel on far river left. This route allows for good momentum towards the right in order to miss the relatively large holes in the center and left. Immediately following is a Large class V called Sock em dog. Scout right, there is a large reversal in the middle of the rapid on right. Class IV follows for two miles or so, until you reach Fender Bender. This is the largest and final rapid of this section. Scout this rapid from the road while running shuttle. It is located a third of a mile upstream of the Camp 3 campground. I hope this description helps, and be aware of your capabilities. |
