A great time to run this section of river is in the heat of summer. Summer usually offers good water levels and warm water. During the rainy season swollen side streams have been known to double the flow of this section.

The Lower Klamath River, Mar 01, 2006

Beginning near the sleepy town of Happy Camp, California, the Lower Klamath is by far the most traveled stretch on the Klamath River. On this stretch of the Klamath you will encounter numerous class II and III rapids, with one class IV rapid named Dragons Tooth just to keep things interesting. Between the rapids you will have time to swim in the Klamaths refreshing water or kick back in the raft and soak up the warm summer sun. While on this stretch of the Klamath remember to take the 40 minute hike up Ukonom Creek to the twin falls. At the falls you will have time to swim in the cool crystal clear water or just sit back and let the mist from the falls softly caress your face. The Ukonom hike is definitely a highlight to a Lower Klamath River adventure. Great fun for young and old alike.
