Browns Canyon Rafting Description
Browns Canyon is the most popular rafting trip in the country due to the beautiful scenery, excellent whitewater, and easy access to the river. Outfitters offer 1/2 day, full day and overnight rafting trips. On a Browns Canyon rafting trip you'll drop through more than 15 class III & IV rapids such as Zoom Flume, Big Drop, Widowmaker, and Raft Ripper.
Browns Canyon is a beautiful granite gorge with breath taking views of many of the 14,000 ft peaks in the Arkansas River valley. High water usually occurs in late May through late June, depending on the snowpack and weather. During this time the rapids are big and exhilarating. If you're a thrill seeker this is the time to go on a Browns Canyon rafting trip.
In July and August the water is usually lower and the weather is warmer. This is a great time to take the family on a beautiful Browns Canyon white water rafting trip.
This is a classic western run and should not be missed. There are more than 50 outfitters that offer Browns Canyon rafting trips. Several of the Browns Canyon rafting outfitters are featured below. Please contact them to book your Browns Canyon rafting trip.

Wonderful rafting trip, Jul 19, 2007

My wife and I along with our 2 15 year old kids had a great time rafting Brown's Canyon July, 2007. Our group was 26 people divided among 4 rafts. The guides kept us together enough to have some good water splashing fights. Water was chilly but felt good on a warm, sunny day. The flow of water was perfect as it required very little paddling in slow water. The rapids were difficult enough to keep it exciting without being frightening. Beautiful scenery along the banks, away from highways and development, made this 1/2 day trip one of our most enjoyable. We have rafted the New River in West Va. and this was equally as good, if not better. I highly recommend this, especially for families. Our tour group was Timberline Tours and they did an excellent drive. |

Boring low water creek,, Jun 26, 2006

My wife and I were in Colorado on our honeymoon. Neither of us can figure out how this is the most popular rafting run in the US. What a boring waste of time. I actually felt bad for our guide who was trying to make it exciting for us on a puny 1,000 CFS on June 6th, 2001, during what should have been peak runoff. We raft and kayak out west (California, Oregon and Washington) and when I think of spring run off I am thinking of 4,000 to 12,000 CFS. I never see flows on this river much above 1500cfs (dreamflows.com). There might be some exciting rivers in Colorado, though if you are looking for big water it is not the place to go. (Plus the season is short, only a few months a year). Colorado is a high desert in most places, so I guess it makes sense the flows are pretty small on most rivers, even given the high peaks within the state. Save your money and go somewhere else. |

Late summer Browns Canyon rafting, Apr 09, 2006

I've been on several Browns Canyon rafting trips. Most of them in late summer. The rapids are more mild and the weather is warm. Our guide has let us swim in the water. The water is chilly but feels good on a hot summer day. It seems to rain some in the afternoons but it usually only lasts for a short time then the sun comes back out and it's warm again. During the week it's less crowded which is nice. But even on a busy weekend it's a great trip. Definitely recommended anytime of the year. |

I booked a trip for my employees on Browns Canyon. There were about 10 of us split up into 2 rafts. It was great. We did some fun whitewater and got to splash fight with each other. Our guides were great and everyone had a good time. I can see why Browns Canyon rafting trips are so popular. |

I did Browns Canyon with America Adventure Expeditions in 2004. Our guide was highly skilled and entertaining. My out of town guests all had a great time as well. Just be prepared with some warm clothes. The Arkansas can be cold, even in late June!
