Golden sits right on the foothills of the Rocky Mountains about 16 miles from Denver. There are approximately 13,000 people who call Golden their home. So it is a certainly a quick escape from the city, especially if you are looking for more of a small town atmosphere. Golden was founded in 1859 at the mouth of Clear Creek Canyon after prospectors found gold in the stream. However, the town is not named after the expensive metal, but rather after Thomas L. Golden who was a prospector there at that time. Golden is home to Coors Brewing and to the prestigious Colorado School of Mines. |
