We LOVED the trip! Our guide with Moxie, Eric, was outstanding! Matty put us in a raft with an awesome family whom we enjoyed spending time with. Unfortunately, we stayed at Moxie's campground. Do not EVER do this! It is the noisiest place we have ever stayed and we've been around. Throngs of barely supervised "tweens" and teenagers will show up at 10-10:30pm (or later) and the noise goes on from there. Other campers and staff aren't any better. The campground is crowded and you'll get noise from the screened in common area. Loud music and TV. One Moxie staff person gave an already loud group of young adult women beer of all things. There are plenty of loons calling at night but you won't hear them. If you are lucky there will be a group getting up at 5am to head to the Penobscot. You might get 3 hours of sleep. You WILL be miserable here. We left early losing out on lodging and meals we'd paid for.
Skip the campground and you'll have a "5 star" trip. |

The thrill of the Kennebec River is unprecedented for those who have never had the pleasure of rafting in Maine before. The first hour boils down to what you dream whitewater rafting to be like. I took this trip with Moxie Outdoor Adventures and brought along 3 friends and each of us had our 13 year olds....what a way to bond with ones child and have an absolute blast at the same time. Moxie is a top notch outfit and we are headed back for another run down the mighty Kennebec River Gorge with Moxie and crew! |
