Virgin commercial raft trip a crowd pleaser!, Sep 19, 2008

On August 31, 2008 we ran our first commercial raft trip on the Savage River and it was a crowd-pleaser! People loved the non-stop Class III-IV whitewater water action of this scenic, tree-lined Western Maryland river. Portaging the dam we found was a good call and fairly easy to do on the right side. Although kayakers run it, we found that for our rafts, it was the best choice.
We are glad to get out on this amazing stretch of river that is so well known as site of World Whitewater Championships and Olympic Whitewater Trials. Highly recommended for rafters looking for a whitewater challenge! River & Trail Outfitters (www.rivertrail.com) will run trips whenever the dam releases. |

| The Savage River is an awesome whitewater run. It has no flat water, just rapids from beginning to end. The run is class III-IV. If you know what you're doing, it's a great intermediate run, if not, taking a guided rafting trip may be the perfect option. On days that the dam releases, River Riders www.riverriders.com offers guided trips. Enjoy!!! Be sure to watch for strainers. |
