The scenic community of Big Sky nestles high in mountain meadows, surrounded by timberland, the Spanish Peaks Primitive Area and the Gallatin National Forest. Majestic 11,166-foot Lone Mountain towers over the paradise, where in 1969, Chet Huntley, the late newscaster, and a group of corporate investors purchased some ranchland. Chet loved his native Montana and wanted to contribute to its tourism industry by establishing a year-round resort with complete lodging and recreational facilities.
Big Sky is blessed with amazing beauty and more activities than a mere mortal could ever dream of doing. In summer you can flyfish, hike, bike, raft, horseback ride, golf, camp, watch wildlife or simply relax and enjoy the scenery while trying to figure out how to do it all.Winter allows for some of the best and biggest downhill skiing in America, offering a combined 5600 acres of pure adventure. Nordic skiing, dog-sledding, trips to Yellowstone and moonlit sleighride dinners complete the winter experience.
Whether you are looking for places to stay, things to do or how to get here, this section will help you plan the Big Sky vacation of a lifetime. |
