The town of Three Forks derived its name from the headwaters of the Missouri which is the confluence of the three rivers (Missouri, Madison, and Gallatin) that are the source of the longest river system on the continent, the Missouri-Mississippi drainage. Home to around 1800 residents (2100 including surrounding area), Three Forks is a thriving town that retains its Old-West charm. Centrally located just off Interstate 90 between Bozeman, Helena, and Butte, Three Forks is just 6 miles from the Missouri Headwaters State Park and a short drive to the Madison Buffalo Jump State Monument which archaeologists date back as 4,000 years old.
There are many recreational opportunities, including superb fishing and hunting. The headwaters of the Missouri River, within minutes of Three Forks provide miles of accessible blue-ribbon trout fishing, loating and canoeing opportunities, camping, and more!
