The Delaware River Watershed provides water to over 17 million people and supports a world-class trout fishery and bald eagles. The main stem of the Delaware River is the longest free-flowing river in the eastern U.S. at 331 miles in length. For most of this length, the Delaware River forms the border between Pennsylvania and Delaware on the west side and New York and New Jersey on the east side.
The length of the Delaware River is commonly broken down into three main sections
- Upper Delaware: Hancock NY to Port Jervis NY & Matamoras PA
- Middle Delaware: Port Jervis NY & Matamoras PA to Kittatinny Point NJ
- Lower Delaware: Belvedere NJ to Washington Crossing State Park in NJ & PA
Each section of the Delaware River is distinctively beautiful and provides opportunities for float trips in rafts, kayaks, canoes, and tubes. The local liveries and outfitters can help you enjoy a great day or two on the Delaware River.
