We ran this several years ago near Memorial Day with a group of 20 in our private raft co-op. We camped 4 nights.
It is a fun (and easy) family run that has a true wilderness feel. The rapids were pretty straight forward "read em and run em" affairs. My seven year old daughter had no problems in a hard-shell kayak. Even the "Clarno" rapid proved to be easy for anyone with experience. We stopped and scouted it because we had a nervous lady and then decided that scouting it had been a waste of time. She ran it with no problems.
Fishing was good for 7 to 12" small-mouth bass. We caught and released hundreds. We used small plastic lead-head jigs.
Camping was nice amid some beautiful arid canyons. We had some rain and some incredible up-stream winds. At times no forward progress was possible. |
