At Rockwood, Mt. Kineo rises majestically out of the water forming a sheer cliff 700 feet straight up one side and rolling down to the water’s edge on tree-studded rock formations on the other; a thing of beauty unrivaled in the Eastern United States. The early Indians came from far to obtain the peculiar green flint of Kineo to make arrowheads and other stone implements. With your back to the Blue Ridge Mountains, on Route 15 looking across Moosehead onto Mt. Kineo, the great Indian Chief profile can be seen.
